The Rambling group is small but very friendly. Most of our members tend to be of the older rather than the younger age group, but that is purely by chance - anyone who enjoys a walk in the countryside is welcome to come with us. We meet at 9.30am on the first Saturday of the month in the St Mary's church car park to obtain instructions for the starting point of the ramble. We try to consider the environment and take as few cars as possible; passengers can contribute towards the petrol. Spare cars can always be left at church. Various members of the group volunteer to lead walks, so the burden does not fall to anyone in particular. There is a programme published each January with the proposed walks for the year, and this can be found in the church foyer. There is no membership fee - all you have to provide is a packed lunch, suitable footwear and waterproofs. We have to point out, however, that although the leaders never take unnecessary risks and the walks do not involve mountaineering, neither the church nor the rambling group can be held liable for accident or injury. The walks are generally between 6 and 10 miles in length and we reckon to be finished in time to call at a tea shop or hostelry before setting off for home. Essential items to bring are waterproofs, strong shoes or boots and packed lunch. Transport is shared; passengers may wish to contribute 10p per mile (£4 max) each towards petrol.
