LRW web banner ongoingMore than 25 people came to each of the first two meetings of Living Retirement Well at St Mary’s. It is aimed at those who are retired and still active, or coming up to retirement soon. The format of the evenings is: 1) Coffee and dessert, 2) A talk to introduce the subject for the evening, 3) Discussion in small groups. We look at topics particularly relevant to the retired, and so far have considered “Facing Change”, and “Meaning, Purpose & Call from God.”

Our get-togethers are friendly and relaxed, and people are finding them useful, supportive and encouraging. Here are comments from a couple of people:

  • For me, my time has become much less structured since I retired. Living Retirement Well has given me space to explore with other Christians how God might be calling me to spend my time.
  • I am finding the course light-hearted and fun but also challenging. In the two meetings so far we have looked at change, and meaning and calling. We have found for example that there are many positive things about retirement, not least, more time, and we all have something to offer in retirement. Discussing in small groups of three or four it is really interesting, sharing opinions and experiences. I wait to see how the course unfolds. I am wondering whether there will be a call on my life to something new during the course, and if so, am I really ready for that at present?
We meet on the third Monday of each month, except this month when we meet on Mon 14th May. Coffee and dessert are served from 7:30pm, discussion starts at 7:45pm and we finish at 9:45pm.

Sound interesting? Do you want to explore what it means to live retirement well, and what it means to follow Jesus in this period of our lives? If so, come along. You will be very welcome.
