He had been out playing
When a bomb destroyed his home.
All his family were gone,
He found himself alone.
They took him to a camp;
It was hard to just survive.
And it was even harder for
A little boy aged five.
But now he’s living here with us
And lots of tears he’s shed.
At night we heard him sobbing
As he lay alone in bed.
Months passed and now he’s laughing
And having so much fun;
He has turned a corner,
A new life has now begun.
Today as we were walking home,
Him skipping by my side,
He slipped his little hand in mine -
My tears were hard to hide.
There are so many other little ones
Not as fortunate as he,
But it warms my heart to know
One little soul is free.
