A NEW ROLE FOR THE CHURCH

LynneI am Lynne Raphael; I have been a member of St. Mary’s and Sale West church for nearly 30 years. I am married to Gary, who is also a member of the church. I have 3 grown-up children and 2 grandsons. Last October I was licensed as a Reader for the Church of England, having studied for 3 years. I regularly preach and lead services and I am very involved with the Small groups, having been a pastor for a number of years now. I do not do any paid work any more, but I used to teach and my passion is for discipleship and to use my teaching skills to grow God’s kingdom and for His glory; therefore I am excited to announce a new role I shall be taking on in the church.

I shall be the Teaching Co-ordinator. This basically means I shall be the person with the overview of all the teaching courses across the parish. We now run many courses in church and also invite other people to come and run courses for us. I shall be in charge of scheduling and co-ordinating the courses so that hopefully everyone who wants to will be able to access them. The role will also involve looking at any gaps in our teaching and looking at the growth tracks many of you kindly responded to recently. If you know of a particular course that might be appreciated by others, please let me know about it.

I shall also be leading a new course called “Encounter”, which will follow on from Alpha and Faith Matters. It will be looking at getting to know God better through the Bible and prayer. We shall be looking at things such as: God’s love; different ways of reading the Bible; different types of prayer and being alone with God. This will start in January next year.

You may also find me popping up in other courses as an assistant teacher.

Alongside this I shall be getting even more involved with the Small group leadership team and plan to teach and hopefully inspire all the small group leaders and pastors, who already do an amazing and servant-hearted job.

This is an exciting time for our church and I am glad to be able to play my part in the work that needs to be done.

Lynne Raphael
