In 1955 a Dutch man who became known as Brother Andrew, having witnessed a desperate need for support and prayer behind the ‘Iron Curtain’ answered a calling to
…….Strengthen what remains and is at the point of death…..Rev 3.v.2
So began the work of OPEN DOORS
Today Open Doors responds to millions of Christians who dare to follow Jesus in the most dangerous places on earth, (see World Watch List on website) with practical, spiritual and emotional support.
Brother Andrew went to be with the Lord on 27th September. We thank God for his extraordinary example and legacy to meet the rising needs of our persecuted Christian family.
During this past year in Syria and Iraq Open Doors has continued to work with local partners to establish Centres of Hope, so far 160 in Syria and 126 in Iraq meeting varied needs e.g. medical, educational for children, trauma counselling etc etc.
Their request for the West is that we the Church in the West be United in Prayer for the persecuted church
Hence the opportunity to sign up on the website ( opendoorsuk.org) to the Interactive
Map ONE MILLION PRAYERS OF HOPE so that all can see and be encouraged.
Today 360 million Christian’s freedom of religion/belief is violated !
Open Doors partners are serving the Christians in Nigeria who are experiencing increasing devastating attacks ,with both immediate and long term physical and spiritual support. At the recent Annual Conference first hand reports were heard from the field, not least how local partners were working hard to seek out and come along side refugees from Afghanistan who have crossed borders in desperate need.
So many needs in so many countries too numerous to include , but we CAN PRAY!
An Open Doors International Day of Prayer is to be on zoom opendoorsuk.org/idop sign up for November 6th with Release International, Christian Solidarity Worldwide and Evangelical Alliance joining in to give prayer updates.
Open Doors Advocacy Team is pursuing the implementation of issues raised at the Parliamentary briefing in the summer of 2021, of an Open Doors commissioned report highlighting the extreme persecution facing Christians and other religious minorities in India. I am delighted to report that our very own Jeff McQuillan from St Marys has just become an Advocate for Open Doors. Congratulations Jeff!
