John Rylands

John Rylands Library Visit

Thursday 22nd June

John Rylands was a devout Christian and at the same time, Manchester’s most successful business entrepreneur. He employed 15,000 people in 17 mills and factories producing 35 tons of cotton cloth a day all of which led him to becoming the city’s first multi-millionaire! He supported numerous churches and charities and even employed religious scholars to produce special editions of the Bible for free distribution. By all accounts he was a modest, naturally reserved individual who had an ecumenical spirit. The following inscription can be found on his tomb in the Southern Cemetery: "Not slothful in business, fervent in spirit serving the Lord." (Romans 12:11).

We invite you to join us and discover the secrets of one of Manchester's Architectural gems, the John Rylands Library, and its links to the New Testament at this "Faith in the Workplace" event. After visiting the library we will enjoy a two-course dinner at St James' Club, Manchester and hear talks from Steve Rankin and Martyn Markland.

Tickets cost £26.95 per person*

(includes 2 course meal and tea/coffee, drinks will be available to purchase from the bar)
