CAN LIFE REALLY IMPROVE IN YOUR 10TH DECADE?

MollyHaving spent the whole of my life in Huddersfield I didn’t imagine that at the tender age of 91 I would move across the Pennines to live in Sale. The death of my husband in 2017 and a house too large for comfort gave rise to my decision to move in order to be close to family.

My life is now very much focussed around my family and the events at St Mary’s church, giving me so much pleasure and happiness. At the church every effort is made to make people feel welcome, loved and cared for. The 11.15 service suits me perfectly as does the monthly mid-week Communion service and the Mothers’ Union. I have also joined the Monday lunch fellowship and Off Limits.

The annual ‘Holiday@Home’ event is wonderful; this year we’re off to India (or at least we’re enjoying the experience of India right here at the church without the inconvenience of travel!). I’m looking forward to trying out some Bollywood dance moves!

I attended the Alpha course last autumn and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know aspects of the Christian faith that I was never taught in my earlier years. We now still meet each week as a Post-Alpha group and continue to experience God in new ways which makes life more enriching and meaningful.

At the age of 91 my energy levels aren’t as they were but St Mary’s ensures that age isn’t a barrier to still having a faith-filled life.

Whilst I inevitably miss my husband, this church has enriched my life, for which I am eternally grateful. I have made some wonderful friends, and I am hoping for many more years to come.
