CURRENT SERMON SERIES
This series we are exploring the book of Proverbs and all it offers us in today's world. Reading Proverbs is not like reading a letter, a Gospel, a history book or even the Psalms. It is a collection of thoughts covering a wide range of topics, usually in couplet form but occasionally longer, which contain a mixture of common sense (wisdom) and timely warnings. They are not promises but wise sayings to help us to walk in God’s ways.
The reader of Proverbs has to understand that we live in a fallen world and other things have an impact on our and other people’s lives but God has not left us alone to steer through life as best we can. Here in Proverbs, if we respond to the invitation given, is wisdom to guide us through the delights and demands of everyday living. Proverbs makes it clear that wisdom doesn’t begin in human autonomy, but in relationship with God, where wisdom is then worked out in different areas of life – in our homes, our workplaces, our communities… wherever God has called us.
